KHNP yet to decide on extending Dukovany nuclear bid

South Korea’s KHNP has not yet decided whether it will extend its offer to build new nuclear reactors at the Dukovany site, company vice president Harry Chang told Czech Television on Thursday. The offer remains valid until the end of June and an extension would depend on a formal request from the Czech government and further internal assessment.

The contract signing, originally planned for May 7, was halted by a court ruling after French competitor EDF challenged the Czech Competition Authority’s approval of the tender, which favoured KHNP.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala has admitted the agreement may not be signed before his government’s term ends, but said the planned 2036 launch of the first reactor is still on track.

The Dukovany project, with estimated costs of CZK 407 billion, is set to be the largest infrastructure investment in Czech history.
