Karviná deny wrongdoing amid massive match-fixing investigation

Czech top flight football club Karviná has denied being involved in a largescale match-fixing affair that has seen dozens of people detained. A statement on its website says that any guilt is borne by individuals, not the club itself.

The Czech football association’s Ethics Committee says that Karviná, via chairman Jan Wolf, influenced two matches in 2024, when the club was in danger of relegation, by bribing referees and an opposition player who subsequently signed for the North Moravian side.

The head of the Czech Football Association said on Tuesday that a total of 47 people were facing disciplinary proceedings on suspicion of match-fixing and bribery. The scandal is reported to concern the four highest divisions in the domestic game.
