Jiří Bubeníček's ballet masterclasses in Český Krumlov attract young dancers from around the world
The internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Jiří Bubeníček is currently conducting ballet master classes in Český Krumlov as part of an international music festival. These workshops not only culminate in a final concert where the young participants perform, but also provide them with valuable experience from professionals worldwide.
Dancer and choreographer Jiří Bubeníček first conducted ballet master classes at the International Music Festival in Český Krumlov for the second year. The venture is so successful and has proved so fulfilling for him that he wants to turn it into an annual tradition:
"I enjoy working with young people, sharing my own experiences and those of other dancers who have performed in theaters and galas around the world. Now, we have the chance to educate the next generation."
The workshop features young dancers aged 15 to 20.
"We have 25 dancers, which is fantastic. There are participants from Czechia, Slovakia, as well as from countries like Australia and Turkey. It's a wonderfully diverse group."
The 13-day ballet masterclass concludes with a performance by selected dancers at the festival's closing gala concert titled Shakespeare 460: Romeo and Juliet.
"What's unique about this course is its integration with the festival. The dancers not only get to practice in the studio but also perform alongside professionals at the concert. It's not purely a ballet performance but a concert that includes dance."
Among the participants is 19-year-old Martin Balabán from Chomutov.
"It's an incredible experience. I have the chance to dance the role of Paris in the Romeo and Juliet choreography. Mr. Bubeníček is an amazing person and teacher, and the atmosphere here is fantastic. It's demanding, but absolutely worth it."
The festival's director, Gabriela Rachidi, emphasizes the event's focus on educational development:
"We incorporate educational projects into the festival, open to the public for free in the monastery gardens. These include music and creative workshops, painting, and this year, a lecture by Professor Hilsky, a renowned translator of Shakespeare's works."
The International Music Festival Český Krumlov will conclude on Saturday, August 3, with a gala evening in the Brewery Garden. Plans are already in place to continue the ballet masterclasses next year.
