Javelin Olympic champion Barbora Špotáková announces end of career

Double Olympic javelin gold and three time world champion Barbora Špotáková announced the end of her career on Friday.

The 41-year-old athlete is the current world record holder with a throw of 72.28 meters. She won gold medals at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008 and four years later in London and also took the bronze medal in Rio in 2016.

Špotáková made her first appearance at the 2002 European Championships in Munich, where she returned this year to win a bronze medal with her last attempt.

Her last competition was the Diamond League final in Zurich on Thursday, where she finished fifth with a throw 59.08 metres.
