Interior Ministry advising voters not to rely solely on digital IDs amid technical glitches

The Czech Interior Ministry has warned voters not to rely exclusively on the new eDoklady digital ID system when casting their ballots, urging them instead to bring a traditional plastic ID card or passport. This is the first time voters can use the eDoklad app to identify themselves at polling stations. However, the digital ID must be refreshed within 48 hours before use. Some voters reported being unable to update the app on their phones, leaving them unable to prove their identity digitally. The ministry stressed that the issue does not pose a security risk but stems from technical overload caused by high demand. The government’s Digital and Information Agency is working to fix the problem.
