Hundreds of Czechs requesting to fight in Ukraine
Around 300 people have requested an exemption from the Czech law preventing citizens from serving in foreign armies in order to join the fighting currently going on in Ukraine, Prague Castle spokesman Jiří Ovčáček announced on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Czech Defence Ministry reports it has registered more than 100 similar candidates, with further people calling in.
These applications are first assessed by the ministries of defence, interior and foreign affairs before they are forwarded to the Czech president for signature, the Castle spokesman said. The president, he said, is in general supportive of such requests and will discuss the matter with the prime minister on Thursday.
