Highest daily number of new covid infections since end of April

Covid seems to be on the rise again in Czechia, according to the latest Ministry of Health data. On Friday, 1,840 new cases were registered, the highest number of new daily cases since the end of April. Apart from the public holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday, when the number of newly registered cases fell significantly due to lower testing, last week the number of daily new cases continued its recent upward trend.

Data from Prague's wastewater also show that the virus is making a comeback. Biochemist Jan Konvalinka pointed out this week on Facebook that there has been a sharp increase in the amount of the virus found in Prague's wastewater, and that in the past, similar figures were followed about four weeks later by full hospitals. The Ministry of Health is appealing to people to get revaccinated.
