Health minister: third Covid vaccine for high risk groups
Selected high-risk groups of the population will be offered a third Covid vaccine in the autumn, Health Minister Adam Vojtěch told the daily Pravo. He said the authorities would specify later this month who should be eligible, but it would certainly be senior citizens, patients with chronic illnesses and possibly also people in high risk professions such as doctors and nurses.
The health minister said that although he expected Covid numbers to rise in the autumn, a lockdown should not prove necessary due to the fact that at least half of Czechs are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Moreover, a study conducted by the RECETOX research centre at Masaryk University in Brno, concluded that around half of the adult Czech population may already have been infected with the virus and developed antibodies, contributing to herd immunity.
