Health Minister: Covid epidemic to culminate next week with up to 80,000 daily cases

The Covid-19 epidemic is expected to culminate in the Czech Republic in the coming week, Health Minister Vlastimil Válek said in an interview for Czech Television on Sunday. At the start of the week, the number of new cases could reach 50,000, while later in the week, it could be as high as 80,000.

According to Mr. Válek, the incidence rate among school children will start decreasing, but there will be an increased spread among the elderly population.

He also said that the new, protein-based Covid-19 vaccine from Novavax is scheduled to arrive in the Czech Republic at the end of February or beginning of March. Registration for the vaccine could be launched in two weeks’ s time.
