Health info chief: Hospitals Covid burden could shoot up this week

The head of the Institute for Health Information and Statistics says 9,000 or 10,000 new cases of Covid-19 could soon be confirmed in the Czech Republic daily. Speaking to Czech Radio on Tuesday, Ladislav Dušek said this was less important than the number of coronavirus hospitalisations, which could increase markedly this week and may soon climb to 3,000. The number of people in intensive care could double.

Mr. Dušek said the virus was now mainly spreading among unvaccinated adults. Whereas in September it affected many young unvaccinated Czechs increases are now occurring in the 30 to 50 age category, he said.
