Hamáček: Pubs that breach Covid rules could face year’s closure

The minister of the interior, Jan Hamáček, has outlined possible new restrictions aimed at curbing growing numbers of Covid-19 infections. In an interview on the news site Novinky.cz, Mr. Hamáček, who also heads the national coronavirus taskforce, said that entities such as pubs and restaurants that repeatedly flouted current rules by welcoming customers could be subjected to forced cessation of activties lasting one year.

In addition the government is to consider a new central register of misdemeanours under which those who repeatedly ignore Covid rules would face higher sanctions.

The cabinet is due to discuss new measures at a meeting on Monday.
