Greenpeace calls for introduction of deposit system for PET bottles before autumn elections

The environmental organisation Greenpeace called for the introduction of a deposit system for PET bottles and cans at Tuesday's demonstration on Malá Strana Square in Prague, where ecologists drew attention to the urgency of introducing a deposit system. If Czechia does not adopt the law on the deposit system for PET bottles and cans before the autumn elections, they say, the discussion will be postponed for several years, and in the meantime hundreds of millions of containers will continue to end up in nature, in landfills or in incinerators.

The Chamber of Deputies was last due to discuss the deposit of PET bottles at an extraordinary meeting at the end of March, but the lower house rejected the draft agenda for the meeting at that time.
