Great chanson singer Hana Hegerová dies at 89
The great singer Hana Hegerová has passed away at the age of 89. Hegerová, whose original name was Carmen Farkašová, was born in Bratislava. She became a star at Prague’s famous Semafor theatre in the 1960s, earning a reputation as the queen of Czechoslovak chanson with a repertoire that included songs made famous by Edith Piaf as well as many chansons by Czech and Slovak songwriters.
She released her final album in 2010 and had recently been suffering from health problems.
