Government expands housing aid eligibility

More people in housing need will qualify for state support after the Czech government raised the income threshold for assistance. Under a regulation approved Wednesday, households earning less than 1.6 times the subsistence minimum will be eligible, up from the previous limit of 1.43. Labour Minister Marian Jurečka (SPOLU) announced the change after the cabinet meeting, saying it responds to a recent parliamentary amendment to the Housing Act. According to government data, the amendment had excluded roughly one-third of people in housing distress from support. The Platform for Social Housing welcomed the higher threshold.
