Government to decide on salary increase, plans to give teachers 7% increase and others 1,400 crowns

The Czech government is preparing to decide on a salary increase for 846,300 public-sector and state-service workers on Wednesday, with a view to raising teachers' salaries by 7% from January, and others’ salaries by 1,400 crowns. This is included within draft government regulation, which will also regulate guaranteed salaries and bonuses. About 24 billion crowns should go into the increase next year.

The cabinet agreed with trade unionists to increase salaries by 1,400 crowns in early October. The leaders were not satisfied with the amount, demanding an increase of at least 2,200 crowns, and threatened protests.
