Gorilla dies in Prague Zoo

Bikira, a female gorilla in Prague Zoo, died on Friday, most likely as a result of internal bleeding in the stomach. The gorilla was noticably tired on Thursday which led zoo staff to eventually transfer her to the veterinary ward, where she was operated on. Despite intensive care, the gorilla died three hours after the operation.

A western gorilla, Bikira was born in Amsterdam in 1995, but later found a home in the Prague Zoo. She was known as a very friendly animal.
