Germany to reinstate border controls with Czech Republic
The German government will temporarily reinstate border controls on its border with the Czech Republic after designating the country as "very high risk" due to the growing number of variant coronavirus cases on Czech territory, the German news agency dpa reported, citing Interior Minister Horst Seehofer.
It will also further restrict the number of cross-border workers to those employed in critical infrastructure, care givers and health workers.
The new measures will come into effect on Sunday.
The German authorities ascribe the higher number of coronavirus cases in the border regions to the presence of Czech cross-border workers in these areas.
