German officials welcome first Sudeten German congress in Czechia

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has praised the fact that the annual congress of the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft was held in Czechia for the first time this year. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Federation of Expellees, he described the gathering in Brno as incredible and said it had left a deep impression on him.

Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer also praised the level of reconciliation between Czechs and Germans that made it possible to hold the congress in Czechia. Steffen Hörtler, deputy chairman of the Federation of Expellees, called the Brno gathering historic.

Sudeten Germans were invited to Brno in May by Meeting Brno, the initiative behind the festival of the same name. The congress was organized by the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft, which represents the interests of Germans expelled from Czechoslovakia after World War Two and their descendants.
