Gender inequality in Czechia among worst in EU, study finds

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has ranked the Czech Republic in the bottom fifth of EU member states on its latest Gender Equality Index.

At the EU level, the index improved by 0.6 points compared to last year and stood at 68 points out of 100. With 56.7 points, Czechia came in 22nd place out of 27 EU states.

Along with Hungary and Poland, the Czechia is among the few countries whose index score increased by less than two points compared to 2010.

Czechia recorded the lowest score, only 28 points, in terms of women’s access to power, measured by the low number of women in parliament and government, and on boards of scientific, sports and other associations.
