Frosty morning in Šumava sets new May records

Parts of the Šumava mountains saw record low temperatures for May 7. The lowest, minus 9 degrees Celsius, was measured at the Perla station near Kvilda, breaking its previous record from 2011. Several other places in South Bohemia also set new records.

The frost wasn’t limited to the south. Across the country, morning temperatures ranged from minus 4 in the Broumov area in the northeast to around 8 degrees in South Moravia. In the Jizera and Krušné Mountains, temperatures also dropped below minus 5.

Meteorologists say cloudier skies on Thursday should ease the morning chill, but frost could return on Friday and Saturday.
