Friday sees over 1,000 people test positive for coronavirus for third time this week

Friday saw the number of daily coronavirus cases detected in Czechia cross the 1,000 mark for the third time this week. This despite a week-on-week decrease in the number of tests taken.

A total of 1,017 people tested positive in laboratories across the country. The average number of new cases per 100,000 people in the population is also rising, from Thursday’s 53 to Friday’s 54. The most affected regions are currently Moravia-Silesia, South Bohemia and Prague. The reproduction number currently lies at 1.3.

Meanwhile, 331 people are hospitalised with COVID-19, the highest number since June. 22 people died after being infected with COVID-19 this week, bringing the total number of deaths close to 30,500.
