Former PM Babiš places first in presidential election poll

Former Czech prime minister and ANO party leader Andrej Babiš placed first in the Median agency’s March poll of prospective presidential candidates to replace Miloš Zeman when the latter’s mandate runs out next year. 26 percent of respondents said that they would vote for Mr Babiš, followed by 16 percent who stated their preference for retired general and former chairman of the NATO Military Committee Petr Pavel.

The two front runners were followed by Civic Democrat Senator Miroslava Němcová with 8 percent and her colleague without party affiliation Pavel Fischer with 7 percent.

Around half of the respondents said that they are not yet sure about who they will vote for.
