Former football boss sent to six years in jail for abuse of sports subsidies

A Prague municipal court has found the former head of the Czech Football Association, Miroslav Pelta, guilty of abuse of sports subsidies and sent him to six years in jail. Pelta was also slapped with a 5 million crown fine and was served a five-year ban on working in statutory bodies, including sports associations and clubs. The former deputy education minister Simona Kratochvílová, who was tried as an accomplice, received a 6.5 year jail sentence, a six year ban on working in statutory bodies and a 2 million crown fine. The verdicts are not legally binding and may be appealed.
