Former football boss Pelta given 5.5 years in prison

The Prague municipal court has once again found the former head of the Czech Football Association, Miroslav Pelta, guilty of abuse of sports subsidies and sent him to 5.5 years in jail. Pelta was also given a five million-crown fine and a five-year ban on working in statutory bodies, including sports associations and clubs. He has repeatedly appealed the verdict.

The former deputy education minister Simona Kratochvílová, who was tried as an accomplice, received a six-year jail sentence, a six-year ban on working in statutory bodies and a two-million crown fine. The verdicts are not legally binding and may be appealed.
