Former Czech MEP Libor Rouček receives award from Sudeten Germans

Former MEP and Vice-Chairman of the Social Democrats Libor Rouček received the Charles IV Prize for fostering understanding among European nations at the Sudeten German Congress in Regensburg on Saturday.

The prize was also be handed over to German politician Christian Schmidt. It is the first time that the award will be given to both a Czech and a German in the same year.

The Czech government will be represented at the congress by education minister Mikuláš Bek. He will be the first Czech acting minister to attend the event since 2017.

Bernd Posselt, the highest political representative of the Sudeten Germans, said on Friday that relations between the two countries are flourishing.
