Foreign ministry aims to soften regulations for Ukrainian, Belorussian students

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs is proposing a regulation which would allow Ukrainians to apply for a residence permit in the Czech Republic to study, even if they have received temporary protection in another EU member state. According to the ministry, many Ukrainian applicants were admitted to Czech universities for the 2022/2023 academic year and a significant number of them have received temporary protection in another EU country. Under the current legislation their application for a residence permit in the Czech Republic would automatically be rejected. Belarusians who apply for a residence permit to study at a university in Czechia on the basis of scholarships provided by Czech authorities, the European Union or international organisations should also be exempted from the visa ban.
