Foreign Minister Lipavský summons Russian Ambassador over threats to Senator Němcová
Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský summoned Russian Ambassador Alexander Zmeevsky on Monday to deliver a protest against threats made towards Senator Miroslava Němcová. Lipavský stated that Czechia would not be intimidated, following a fake post on social media that falsely called for a blockade of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).
Russian news agency TASS reported that Russia’s investigative committee is looking into the fake statement. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called Němcová an “evil animal” and expressed a wish for her to “perish in the bloody storms of a new Prague Spring.” Czech leaders have condemned the threats and voiced support for Němcová.
