Flags at Prague Castle flown at half-mast in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II
Flags at Prague Castle have been lowered to half-mast in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thusrday at the age of 96. They will remain so until her funeral, the President's spokesman Jiří Ovčáček wrote on Twitter on Friday.
Earlier on Friday, Czech MPs observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late. The speaker of the lower house, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, said Elizabeth II would remain in everyone's memory as a model of a monarch‘s devotion to her country and submission to the welfare of her people.
Many Czech senior politicians offered their condolences on Thursday following the announcement of the Queen’s death.
President Miloš Zeman said he had received the news of the Queen’s death with great sorrow, adding that he admired her lifelong devotion to the British monarchy and the hard work and immense humility with which she served her nation.
The Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, said that he was deeply saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II and sent heartfelt and sincere condolences to the Royal family and the British people and the people of the Commonwealth.
