Five out of twelve benzene tankers still to be cleaned in Hustopeče after last week’s accident

Firefighters in Hustopeče nad Bečvou in the Přerov region, where tankers with toxic benzene crashed last week, are continuing to clean those tankers with benzene residues. Five out of twelve damaged tankers are still to be cleaned with steam, regional fire department spokeswoman Lucie Balážová told ČTK.

Preparations are also underway to remove wrecked wagons from the tracks, and firefighters from the Railway Administration completed dismantling the traction line on Saturday. A time for removing the wrecked railway tankers has not yet been set, railway fire department spokesman Martin Kavka said on Sunday. Last Monday, Environment Minister Petr Hladík reassured the public that there is no air contamination, and the site will be fully decontaminated.
