Five Czech players reach US Open round of 16, Muchová to face Nosková

Czech tennis players Tomáš Macháč and Barbora Krejčíková have advanced to the round of 16 at the US Open. Macháč, seeded 21st, defeated France’s Ugo Blanchet on the New York hard courts 7:5, 6:3, 6:1. Krejčíková came from behind to beat the tournament’s number ten seed, American Emma Navarro, 4:6, 6:4, 6:4.

That means five Czech players are now guaranteed a place in the last 16 of the season’s final Grand Slam. Alongside Macháč and Krejčíková, Jiří Lehečka and Markéta Vondroušová are also through. The last spot will go to either Karolína Muchová, seeded 11th, or Linda Nosková, seeded 21st, who face each other later on Saturday.
