Finance minister rules out hike in income tax

The government will not increase income tax, nor will it tax higher incomes more heavily in the form of a progressive tax, Czech Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura said in an interview for Právo. He made the statement amid heated debate regarding the need to find ways to raise state budget revenues in view of the deepening economic crisis. Minister Stanjura also ruled out VAT hikes, but he admitted that a windfall tax in the energy sector was a possibility.
