Finance minister planning to cut farmers’ subsidies

Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura has said that, within broad budget consolidation plans, he wants to  reduce the volume of subsidies paid to farmers by tens of billions of crowns. He said the cuts in subsidies could be a possible response to the rising price of food and agricultural products, if it is confirmed that farmers have been making significantly higher profits. Stanjura indicated that other sectors could expect cuts in subsidies as well within a consolidation package under which he wants to reduce the budget deficit by 70 billion crowns.
