Fiala: Government to propose law for faster deportation of illegal immigrants

The government will propose a new law to speed up the deportation of illegal immigrants, tighten controls on asylum seekers, expand medical screenings, expedite court proceedings, and reduce social benefits for asylum seekers. The aim is to deter migrants from entering the Czech Republic. Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced the proposal at a press conference on Friday.

According to Interior Minister Vít Rakušan, the main focus is to streamline deportation processes for illegally resident foreigners. Under the new law, expelled individuals will no longer be able to apply for asylum, and procedures to deny international protection and order deportation will be combined. Courts will also be required to consider deportation as a sentence if the individual has been convicted of a criminal offense.
