Famed theater director Jaroslav Vostrý passes away
The theatre director Jaroslav Vostrý passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 94. A distinguished dramaturg, director, playwright, publicist, theatre critic, theoretician, and educator, Vostrý was instrumental in founding the Drama Club in Prague in the mid-1960s.
Alongside director Ladislav Smoček, he established the renowned theatre scene on Ve Smečky Street, where Vostrý served as its first artistic director. However, he was forced to leave the Drama Club during the period of normalization and could only return after 1989.
