Famed Czech film critic Antonín J. Liehm dies aged 96
Journalist and film critic Antonín J. Liehm died on Friday at the age of 96 following a long illness. A key figure in Czechoslovak cultural life in the 1960s, he went into exile in 1969 after the Soviet occupation and moved to France.
Liehm was known for his contributions to the Czechoslovak newspaper Literární noviny and the literary journal Lettre Internationale, defending independent Czech culture, which he published in exile in Paris between 1984 and 1988.
Although the French version of Lettre International ceased publication in 1993, a German version has been published continuously since 1988.
