In Czechia, an average of around 200 people die each year due to drowning. Czechs have also long underestimated the rules and safety around water. This was stated to journalists by Matyáš Fošum, Director of the Department of Public Health Protection and Deputy Chief Hygienist, on the occasion of World Drowning Prevention Day. According to Zuzana Pidrmanová, Head of the Prevention Department of the Czech Police Presidium, 94 people had drowned from the beginning of this year up to July 18.
