European Court rejects Petr Kramný’s complaint against Czechia

The European Court of Human Rights has rejected a complaint from convicted murderer Petr Kramný, who is serving a 28-year sentence for killing his wife and daughter in Egypt in 2013. The court said Kramný provided no evidence that Czech justice violated his rights.

Kramný had tried to reopen his case, claiming courts ignored new evidence, but his attempts were repeatedly denied, including last year by the Constitutional Court. Earlier this year, he appealed to the European court, alleging violations of his right to a fair trial and legal remedies.

The three-judge panel ruled that the right to a fair trial cannot be invoked once a conviction is final. The court found no reason to reopen the case, which was confirmed by the High Court in Olomouc, the Supreme Court, and the Constitutional Court.
