EU ministers approve energy relief package
EU ministers approved a relief package of measures to combat the energy crisis in Brussels on Friday.
The package includes the redistribution of profits exceeding EUR 180 per MWh for suppliers of nuclear and renewable sources of electricity, as well as a minimum 33 percent tax on extraordinary profits for fossil fuel suppliers, the Czech News Agency reported on Friday. The extra tax income will be used to support citizens who have been most affected by the crisis, as well as for supporting businesses and financing support measures.
The package was approved during the ongoing Czech presidency of the Council of the EU.
