EU environment ministers meeting in Prague
It is clear that the only energy which will be cheaper than current source sis renewable energy, the Vice-President of the European Commission for the Green Deal Frans Timmermans said on Thursday, ahead of the second day of an informal meeting of EU environment ministers in Prague. Switching to renewables has become all the more urgent since Russia invaded Ukraine, Mr Timmermans said, appealing for unity among member states in solving questions related to the climate crisis.
The ministers are expected to discuss the EU’s joint stance at November’s UN COP 27 climate change conference, which will take place in Egypt. Czech Environment Minister Anna Hubáčková said that all member states are currently aiming to continue in lowering their carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Fiala said on Thursday that the government plans to re-establish its council for energy and raw materials to focus on developing Czechia’s energy strategy including renewables.
