EU energy ministers to consider two Czech proposals at Prague meeting

An extraordinary meeting of European Union energy ministers that Czechia has convened in Prague on Friday will consider two proposed methods of tackling soaring energy prices, the Czech minister of industry and trade, Jozef Síkela, said on Tuesday.

One proposal involves separating the market price of gas from the prices of power plants that generate electricity from gas. The second would put a price cap on all other types of electricity production, excluding gas.

Czech officials are currently ascertaining the views of individual member states on the proposals and will publish a summary of their positions on Wednesday, Mr. Síkela said.

Czechia currently holds the presidency of the EU.
