EU candidate countries defy U.S over International Criminal Court- but at a price?
Countries preparing to join the European Union, including Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic have backed EU support of the International Criminal court. That's despite pressure from the United States to sign an agreement exempting US citizens from war crimes prosecution by the court.

But going against Washington and with the EU has not been easy. Supporting the EU position on the criminal court means, for some, losing out on political and financial support from the US. And it's especially difficult for smaller countries such as Slovenia.
