Epidemic slowing, first case of Indian mutation confirmed
The Czech Republic registered 2,216 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, around 400 less than on the same day a week ago.
There has been a steady decline in the number of cases and the number of hospitalized in the last few weeks. Currently close to 3,000 people are in hospital with the infection, of which 622 are in a serious condition.
The reproduction number is at 0.8, and the risk index is at 54 points corresponding to the third level on a five point scale. The overall Covid-related death toll has crossed the 29,000 mark.
On Thursday vaccination centres inoculated a record number of people –close to 73,000.
The health authorities have now confirmed the first case of the Indian mutation on Czech territory.
