EP12: Games creator Jakub Gemrot
Jakub Gemrot heads Charles Games, the studio affiliated with Prague’s Charles University that produced Attentat 1942, a “WWII game through the eyes of survivors” that won many admirers around the world. Gemrot and his team are hoping to do at least as well with the follow-up Svoboda 1945: Liberation, which is due for release later this year.
In this conversation Jakub Gemrot, who is 37, discusses – among other things – how working on Attentat 1942 gave him a new understanding of people’s choices under the Nazi occupation, how Svoboda 1945: Liberation’s portrayal of the post-war period may spark a strong response, and whether he would ever quit academia for the Czech Republic’s thriving commercial games industry.
Czech Next Wave is produced jointly by the Czech Centres network and Radio Prague International. It introduces listeners around the world to emerging, exciting and highly talented young Czech in various areas of the arts and beyond.
