Environment minister: Czechia will oppose EU proposed 2040 climate target
The Czech Republic will not support the EU's proposal for a binding 2040 climate target that calls for a 90 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared with 1990 levels. Environment Minister Petr Hladík reaffirmed the Czech position ahead of EU talks in Brussels on Thursday. According to Hladík, Prague wants to know the concrete impacts of the proposed target on individual industrial sectors and is pushing for the set goal to be realistic.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Spolu) said earlier that Czechia would not support any EU climate goal that threatens competitiveness or secure energy supplies.
