English to become compulsory foreign language from first grade in 2027

The Czech Ministry of Education has approved a new Framework Education Program for pre-school and primary education facilities, the ministry announced in a press release on Monday. The new curricula will introduce, among other things, compulsory teaching of English in primary schools from the first grade and the introduction of a compulsory second foreign language from the seventh grade. The ministry will make the details of the program public on 14 January. Schools will be able to start teaching according to the new curricula next year. It will only become compulsory in September 2027.
