End of May saw number of deaths return to pre-Covid rates

The number of registered deaths in the Czech Republic reached pre-Covid levels at the end of May, according to the Czech Statistics Agency. However, the total number of deaths registered in May, some 9,349, is still higher than in any year from 2015 to 2019.

March 2021, was the most deadly month in the history of the Czech Republic, according to statisticians. Preliminary statistics show that 16,700 people died that month, exceeding the pre-Covid average by 62 percent. In April, the average was exceeded by 28 percent. In May, it was just 5 percent higher than the pre-Covid average.
