2006 – 89th Segment: “Living Water”
In this series we present 100 songs which have gone down in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. On Czech Radio’s web pages you can find a poll, in which you can vote for the best hit from the past century. We continue with the year 2006.
In June elections were held for the Chamber of Deputies.
On October 3 Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek’s government failed to win the required vote of confidence in the lower house, the first time this had happened since 1989.
On June 16 singer Vlasta Průchová passed away.
Pop Idol-style TV music competitions are very popular in the Czech Republic. The first person to ever win the Česko hledá SuperStar contest, in 2004, was Aneta Langerová. In September of that year the singer – who to this day is a major star – released her debut album Spousta andělů, Lots of Angels.
The third single from that record was Voda živá, Living Water, composed by musician Michal Hrůza. It was a huge success, winning the Hit of the Year poll twice, in both 2005 and in 2006. This was unprecedented.
