Eliška Wagnerová, respected expert in constitutional law, has died at 76

Eliška Wagnerová, a respected expert in constitutional law and former deputy chairwoman of the Constitutional Court, has died at the age of 76. The Constitutional Court announced her passing on its website.

A graduate of the Faculty of Law at Charles University, Wagnerová emigrated to Germany in 1982 where she worked at Radio Free Europe, before moving to Canada in 1989. She returned to her homeland soon after the fall of the communist regime and worked as an assistant to the head of the Constitutional Court. She was later appointed a Supreme Court judge and eventually head of the Supreme Court. She continued her career as a judge for ten years at the Constitutional Court, where she served as deputy chairwoman.
