Eliška and Jakub remain most popular baby names in Czechia
In 2024, the most common baby names in Czechia continued to be Eliška for girls and Jakub for boys, a trend unchanged since 2012. The second and third most popular names also saw little change: Matyáš and Jan for boys, and Viktorie and Sofie for girls, replacing Anna in third place.
About 84,000 children were born last year, roughly 7,000 fewer than the previous year. New rising favorites among parents include Sebastian, Mia, Sára, and Amálie, with Sebastian entering the top 20 names for the first time. In contrast, names like Šimon and Marie have declined in popularity, dropping out of the top 20.
The name Jan is the only one to have remained in the top 10 since 1950, ranking first 25 times. Among girls, Jana has held the top spot 25 times and Tereza 15 times.
