Eight killed in deadliest day on Czech roads since 2019

Eight people died in traffic accidents across Czechia on Sunday, making it the deadliest day on the roads since November 11, 2019, when the same number of fatalities was recorded.

Until now, the worst day of this year had been April 16, with six deaths. In comparison, the highest daily toll last year was seven, five the year before, and six in 2022.

According to police statistics, 137 people died in crashes between January and the end of May this year — the lowest number for that period since 1980. Another 20 deaths have been added so far in June.

Last year, a total of 443 people were killed in road accidents, which is the lowest annual toll since 1961, when police began keeping consistent records.
